I’ve been online since Tim Berners-Lee drafted the first proposal for an HTML specification in 1993. In those days getting connected was a laborious mess and the payoff was negligible, but I saw the promise, and the Internet became a passionate interest. For most of my career, I’ve leveraged open source software to provide information architecture, systems integration and development leadership to companies large and small. While based in Manhattan in the early days, I helped manage and evolve Thing.NET, which served the International Fine Arts community. The thing.net initiative was supported by HP and SGI, and served websites for well-known art concerns including Artforum magazine, PS1, and The Museum of Modern Art, and was influential enough to warrant its own Wikipedia entry (where I’m mentioned). Working with Fusebox Inc., I designed and deployed solutions for NickelOdeon, Time-Warner Cable, Chase Manhattan Corporation, CBGB, and a variety of web properties, from small businesses to multinational corporations. As founder and CEO of Web Plant, a web development firm based out of Toronto, I managed the successful development of a number of high profile web projects for internationally known brands including Panasonic, Hewlett-Packard, Microsoft, Pontiac and others. Most recently, I’ve collaborated with the Broad Street Network team as VP Technology. In addition to business websites, BSN has been Developing custom web-based applications. We`ve also used open-source tools to deliver cost-effective rapid application development for MVPs and proof of concepts. Deliverables included AJAX-enabled web applications to enhance workflow and engagement, integration with existing business processes, and both public-facing and internal solutions for HR, marketing automation, and other purposes.
