There was a time when I thought a firm grasp of HTML could - given some creativity on the layout side of things - could solve all possible problems of life ... I even started to enhance my pages with CSS (though veterans kept telling me this was a fashion that would pass away soon). But, heck, those were the early nineties ... But there were painful limitations in what you could do with HTML. So I got into some crazy love affair with Javascript, and I was happy as I could be in the dark ages of the browser wars. Guess what? There certainly were limitations for Javascript, too. So I got into another crazy love affair with Java, happily writing Applets in every waking hour. Oh, those were the times, my friend ... You saw it coming straight down the alley, right? Java, and especially Applets, hat their limitations, too. So I got into Applications development, still using Java, sort of ... But having been in two exceedingly bad marriages, the signs were crystal-clear. Time to move on! Fate is inexorable. Bandwidths went skyrocket, Web Hosters became affordable and well-equipped with all of the Database-and-PHP goodness anyone could wish for, I finally dipped in my so-far last love affair with Web Development, basically writing full-grown web-based applications with built-in zero-deployment virtually-no-headaches guarantee. Ah! The mere joy of it all! Provided I will, some day, get my customers to cough up for my services instead of just whining and griping and complaining how bad things have been lately, I will be living happily ever after.
